This is where I share my experiences as a Work from Home - Professional Consulting Engineer. I hope it inspires other professionals to create a happy balance between professional work and family life and also to enjoy some real life experiences and laughs along the way.

Practice
Somethimes it can become monotonous doing the same thing over and over, until eventually motivation disappears. These words recently inspired me...
"Experts are experts because they have put in the work, doing the same thing over and over again, hundreds maybe thousands of times, striving to do better each time. Keep persisting!!"

If only I could influence people at meetings the way I can influence my children's drawings!!!

Traffic Lady
I was at a meeting today and the client was being introduced to the civil engineer, town planner, geotechnical engineer, but when it came to me... I was known as "The Traffic Lady". Four years of engineering - square rooting the alphabet to the logarithm of 10
and all I get is "Traffic Lady". Oh well as they say "It's not what they call you... just as long as they call you!!!"

Seeing the Light
A few weeks ago we decided to have a "no
electricity" night! It is amazing how dependent we become and how we take
for granted brilliant inventions. We were also taking the kids out of their
"comfort zone" which I recommend everyone should do occasionally. I couldn’t even tell them the name of the
person who invented electricity!!! Yet we
are so dependent on it, which begged me to think – why do we strive for
innovation? … it certainly isn’t for the fame! This simple idea of having a night of candles
and torches made me re-evaluate my career and refocus my direction – my aim is
to improve the way we live by being influential. It is amazing how clearly things appear in the
darkness in order to lead us to the light!!!

My Diary
My Diary is essential for organising work and family. I record phone calls, names and numbers, meeting arrangements, school appointments - I would be lost without it. I-phones and Blakberries are excellent, but the trusy good old diary is flawless (apart from the big dint on the front of mine)!
