Another engineer colleague has left the industry, and I feel we need to do more to retain our skilled and experienced workers. Nothing seemes more applicable than this quote I read recently from the amazing Walt Disney...
"The difference in winning and losing is most often... not quitting!"
Professional Domestic Engineer
This is where I share my experiences as a Work from Home - Professional Consulting Engineer. I hope it inspires other professionals to create a happy balance between professional work and family life and also to enjoy some real life experiences and laughs along the way.

Practice
Somethimes it can become monotonous doing the same thing over and over, until eventually motivation disappears. These words recently inspired me...
"Experts are experts because they have put in the work, doing the same thing over and over again, hundreds maybe thousands of times, striving to do better each time. Keep persisting!!"

Influence
This is a drawing my daughter did when she was 4 years old. It is her and a friend starberry picking. Most important to her art was the entry road (black with seperated centre line marking) strawberry sign, roundabout (light green) and car parking area (brown lines) with the cars drawn from plan view. I just love this picture, clearly she has spent a lot of time in my office asking questions about plans and watching me "google" earth!
If only I could influence people at meetings the way I can influence my children's drawings!!!

Traffic Lady
I was at a meeting today and the client was being introduced to the civil engineer, town planner, geotechnical engineer, but when it came to me... I was known as "The Traffic Lady". Four years of engineering - square rooting the alphabet to the logarithm of 10
and all I get is "Traffic Lady". Oh well as they say "It's not what they call you... just as long as they call you!!!"
